Make Your Safe Caribbean Retirement Dream a Reality

You might be surprised to realize that your safe Caribbean retirement may not be as simple as it seems. Believe it or not, many of the most beautiful and safest places in the Caribbean are not reaching out to us retirees with open hands.

These folks like things as they are and do not realize what an asset, a bunch of us old farts, can be to a place.

This does not mean you have to give up on your dreams. Just be aware that this retirement list is not the same as the Caribbean safety list.

The Top 5 places to Live Out Your Caribbean Retirement Dreams

  1. Dominica - this pretty little island is very under reported. Crime is low, so is the cost of living.
  2. Aruba - Aruba is not as inexpensive as some of the other choices here. But if you are looking for a very civilized, safe place to retire to, consider Aruba
  3. Grand Caymans - Like Aruba, the Caymans are quite civilized. Lots of business and lots of beautiful scenery.
  4. Bonaire - I think this is the prettiest of the ABC islands. It belongs to the Netherlands and it may be a bit more difficult to get permanent status here, but if you can, it is well worth it.
  5. U.S. Virgin Islands - If you are an American you can move to the U.S. Virgin Islands as easy as you can move to any state. Be aware that there are some sketchy regions here.

I Would Not Retire Here

5. Haiti & Puerto Rica.

4. The Bahamas

3. St. Kitts and Nevis

2. Trinidad and Tobago

1. Jamaica

All of these places that I would not retire to have ongoing problems with property and personal assault crimes. Unemployment is very high in much of the Caribbean and in these particular countries this has a serious effect on the safety of all, but especially newcomers.

Gang violence and poverty are common bed fellows. As beautiful as these places are, and as wonderful as most of the people are, personally, I would not risk a new retirement in one of these countries.

I really want to hear what you think?

How did I do? Do you agree with my choices or do you have a totally different point of view. Please share!
